Sunshine Educare was founded in Skandaalkamp settlement, an informal “bush” settlement located on the Frankdale Waste disposal site just off the N7 outside Table view. The Xhosa name of “Umta Welanga” (When in a dark, cloudy sky, a ray of sunshine breaks through) best describes this amazing facility which is an oasis of light in a place of darkness.
It offers hope in a place that has none and a future in a place where no-one lives, everyone merely survives. Volunteers will work 5 days a week with the children. Some days volunteers will work a full 8 hours and other days 4 to 5 hours, depending on the needs of the project. They will help in the daily running of the programs, for example Teaching Lessons, stimulating smaller children, growing a veggie garden, educating children on Life Lessons, Assisting with feeding programs, Fundraising and administration.
